World Heart Day 2021

Healthy heart for a healthy life

Heart is a vital organ in the circulatory system, hence any problems/disease related to heart may be fatal. Cardiovascular diseases or CVD’s are a group of disorders that occur to heart and the blood vessels and are the leading cause of death globally. As per WHO, an estimate of 17.9 million people died from CVDs in 2019, which represents 32% of all global deaths. Of these, 85% were due to heart attack and stroke.

The most important behavioral risk factors of heart disease and stroke are unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use and harmful use of alcohol.  Neurological dysfunctions such as stress, anxiety, and depression are also playing critical role in the pathophysiology of CVD. The effects of behavioral risk factors may show up in individuals as raised blood pressure, raised blood glucose, raised blood lipids, and overweight and obesity.

As per WHO data, an estimate of 1.28 billion people (between the age 30-79 years) have hypertension and an estimate of 46% of adults are unaware that they are having the condition. In the case of diabetes, the number of people with diabetes has rose from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014 and in 2019 an estimate of 1.5 million deaths were directly caused by diabetes (WHO newsroom factsheets). Considering the condition of overweight and obesity, worldwide obesity has nearly tripled since 1975. In 2016, 39% of adults aged 18 years and over were overweight and 13% were obese. The shocking fact is that 39 million children under the age of 5 were overweight or obese in 2020 (WHO newsroom factsheets).

Turmeric has many useful effects as prophylaxis for CVD. Modern research has established the pleiotropic mechanism of action for the cardio protective effects of curcuminoids (the bioactive principle and yellow pigment in turmeric). But, the oral bioavailability of curcuminoids in its bioactive forms, (i.e. the native FREE unconjugated form), is rare and a great challenge.

Akay’s patented ingredient CurQfen® has clinically proven to support physiologically significant levels of free curcuminoids into plasma and critical organ tissues, including heart and brain. CurQfen® has further shown to support a healthy heart, by alleviating various critical markers and risk factors responsible for the pathogenesis of CVD. For instance,

  • Helps to maintain balanced arterial stiffness
  • Supports vasodilation effects
  • Helps to balance healthy endothelial functions
  • Provides a healthy anti-inflammatory effect
  • Ameliorates oxidative stress and enhances the primary antioxidants defense markers in blood
  • Helps to establish a healthy lipid profile
  • Supports high good cholesterol and low bad cholesterol levels
  • Supports healthy homocysteine levels
  • Helps to reduce post-prandial blood glucose hike, and to reduce glycemic index
  • Supports probiotics in gut (microbiota) and healthy gut

CurQfen® is a generous formulation using dietary fiber (galactomannan) from the very famous kitchen spice and medicinal herb, fenugreek.  The patented water based process without using synthetic emulsifiers and additives makes it unique. This patented technology, registered as FENUMATTM is the very first GREEN APPROACH in phytonutrient delivery with enhanced bioavailability.

  • Clinically validated with peer-reviewed publications
  • 100% Natural, Food grade & Clean label
  • No synthetic emulsifiers/additives
  • No hidden ingredients
  • ORGANIC-certified
  • Patented & Self affirmed GRAS
  • Available in powder & granular forms with optimized formulation details
  • Low dosage
  • Suitable for wide delivery forms

As a recognition of our research and science, CurQfen® was the finalist in Nutraingredients, Europe Awards in 2017, as Ingredient of the year: Heart health.

As a token of appreciation to our ever ending research efforts and commitments to brain research, CurQfen® awarded as the Best Cognitive ingredient for Nutraingredients Asia 2021.

Finally, the safety! We are uncompromised here. Being the unique curcumin with significantly high levels of free curcuminoids delivery, tissue distribution and blood-brain-barrier permeability, safety is very important aspect of CurQfen®.

In addition to the Acute, subchronic and geno toxicity studies as per OECD guidelines, CurQfen® has also completed the human safety study at 1000 mg x 2/day for 3 months.  The only bioavailable form of curcumin that has been extensively researched for safety at its highest recommended dosage; especially with specifial reference to hepatotoxicity. We are proud to say that our toxicity study paper in the Journal of Toxicology Reports, 2021 is not just a toxicity study paper, rather it is informative and provides a comprehensive over view of the curcumin-related toxicity reports so far, its dosage, reasons, safety measures, and finally the various bioavailable forms.
